From September 1 to 4, 2025, the first Annual Conference of the Ecosystem Restoration Integrated Program (ERIP) was held in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The event was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, Conservation International Cambodia, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in that country.

The conference brought together national project teams, government representatives, implementing agencies, and technical partners to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and strengthen coordination across ERIP’s global portfolio. Participants attended interactive sessions featuring country presentations, knowledge labs, technical workshops, and a field visit to restoration sites in Phnom Kulen National Park.

ERIP is a multinational initiative supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) that seeks to accelerate ecosystem restoration through inclusive, context-based, and technically sound approaches. The program brings together national projects from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, coordinated through a Global Coordination Project (GCP) led by Conservation International.

Representing Mexico, members of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp, in Spanish), the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRICULTURA, in Spanish), and Mexican Fund for the Conservation of Nature (FMCN, acronym in Spanish) attended the conference to jointly present the Restoring Watersheds for Ecosystems and Communities (ORIGEN) project, which will be implemented from 2025 to 2030.

ORIGEN will generate multiple environmental and socioeconomic benefits by restoring degraded landscapes through an integrated watershed approach. The project will support planning, local restoration efforts, and the mobilization of financial resources. With the support of local partners, it will implement activities in coastal watersheds of Chiapas, Jalisco, and Veracruz, and in pilot watersheds in Guerrero, Nayarit, and Oaxaca.
