FORESTS & WATERSHEDS
The Forests and Watersheds Program Seeks to support the efforts of conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, biodiversity and environmental services. This is done with the purpose of reverting the deterioration of forest ecosystems and the effects of climate change.
Currently the Forests and Watersheds Program operates through the following initiatives:
- Cities and Watersheds:seeks to favor the protection and recovery of watersheds that supply water to major cities in Mexico.
- EmFoCo Project: whose purpose is to improve profitability, as well as the environmental, social and financial sustainability of community forestry enterprises.
- Monarch Fund: seeks to promote the conservation and protection of forests in the core area of the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve.
- Fire Management: seeks to strengthen organizations’ capabilities in catastrophic fire protection.
These instruments are implemented in collaboration with the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR), the National Commission for Natural Protected Areas (CONANP), the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO), as well as partners of civil and governmental organizations in priority areas for biodiversity in the country.
